Adopted Children (Romans 8:12-17)
We just moved back inside to our old home, New Traditions Elementary School! You can find more information about our Sunday gatherings on this page.
Summary
J.I. Packer once wrote that, while forgiveness of sins is central to the gospel, our adoption by God is the greatest gift. Listen as C.J. walks us through this promise in Romans 8. "God created you in His image and longs to be your Father. He wants to take every broken part of your story, every painful event in your life and redeem it. He wants to adopt you into His family, name you as His beloved Son, His beloved Daughter, and slowly, methodically give you the life you always longed for; a life lived close to Him, under His protection and care, a life of meaning and fulfillment.”
Text
Romans 8:12–17
So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
